Relationships between the Modified Sexuality Standards Scale and the Relationship Requirements Rating Scale.
In order to simplify presentation of the data, responses from the RRRS item were collapsed into three groups:
I wanted to see how similar this three category grouping scheme would be to the original 5 category item. The two grouping schemes were correlated .96 in the Oklahoma sample and .95 in the Texas sample indicating that the 3 category scheme was acceptably close to the 5 item grouping.
The 3 category grouping scheme was also highly correlated with the 5 item Modified Sexuality Standards Scale r = .75, p < .05).
| Modified Sexuality Standards Scale by Sexuality Standard Grouping | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sample | < Love | Love | > Love | f | df | p |
| Texas | 25.3a | 17.8b | 7.8c | 245.5 | (2, 356) | <0.001 |
Note: Means with different subscripts are significantly different
using Tukey HSD post hoc comparisons (p < .05).
People who require engagement or marriage prior to sex scored
lower on the Modified Sexuality Standards Scale than did those
who require only love prior to the onset of sexual relations who
in turn scored lower than those who require friendship or casual
acquaintance prior to the onset of sexual intercourse.
