Oklahoma Q-Sort
For the Oklahoma Sample, three different vignettes were used to illustrate three points on the sexuality standards continuum: Abstinence, Permissiveness with Affection and Permissiveness without Affection. Each subject sorted 18 adjectives to describe a "Typical Male", a "Typical Female" and each vignette character. The correlations between ratings of a typical male and female and their ratings of the vignettes are presented below. Positive correlations mean that they sorted the 18 adjectives in similar order for the typical male/female stereotype as compared to the sexuality standards vignette. Negative correlations mean that they sorted the 18 adjectives in reverse order for the typical male/female vignette as compared to how they sorted the adjectives to describe the sexuality standards vignette. Correlations near zero mean that there is little or no relationship between how they sorted the adjectives to describe the typical male/female as compared to the sexuality standards vignette.
