Gizmo's History

2/15/04 Bought 3 goldies. Two that looked Ryunkin and a moor. All about an inch from nose to base of tail. In QT, medigold x 2 weeks.

3/02/04 - 1st dose prazi 1 teaspoon in ~18 gallons water (2 milligrams per liter of water)

3/04/04 - Gizmo

3/06/04 - 10 gallon partial water change, Second dose Prazi 1 teaspoon in ~18 gallons water

3/21/04 - Moved them into the 55 gallon tank. Already noticing size differences

Feeding flakes and sinking pellets in the mornings and frozen shrimp, peas, green beans and lima beans in the evenings.

4/10/04 - Size differences more pronounced. He's trying to eat, but spitting most of it out, even the flakes.

4/17/04 - Dorsal fin is down, hanging out near the surface with head tilted at 45 degrees downward. Still trying to eat, but spitting most out. Two minute dip in .6% salt solution. Moved to QT. Feeding mainly live daphnia. he'll eat one, pause and eat it, then go after another, and pause, etc, etc.

4/18/04 - He's eating live daphnia.. eats one.. pauses... eats another, etc. Noticed black coloration that increased in size over time (See pics below). Sumi? healing? or something else??

4/26/04 - He's doing much better eating these days... doesn't pause much between bites of daphnia. He actually ate a piece of pellet this morning.

5/3/04 - Two weeks since I moved the little one from the 55 gallon into QT and he's getting stronger. His dorsal fin is upright a lot more of the time now and he's not as lethargic. He'll eat a piece of pellet or pea if that's the first thing I feed him, but he still won't clean any up off the bottom. He's been eating mostly daphnia, picking them off one by one till they're all gone each time I feed him.

5/12/04 - The other ryunkin is about 3" nose to base of tail. Gizmo is only 1 inch. Today I'd almost say he was zipping after them fairly quickly... sometimes eating several in a row without pausing.

5/23/04 - Last nite the little one seemed to be doing fine... even ate a blood worm or two on top of the usual daphnia.

Today, he doesn't seem to be doing well. lethargic, not eating the daphnia, not even staying upright all the time... like he's a leaf in the current (what little current there is in that tank).

I put in him a breeder net with some daphnia, in hopes that would be less effort. He doesn't appear to be eating. He's been doing nothing but floating upside down all evening. He will swim for a few seconds if I touch him, but otherwise is floating upside down at the top. No redness that I can see. not much change in the black areas.

Water parameters: ammonia 0, nitrIte 0, nitrate varies 50% partial water change weekly conditioned with Novaqua, KH 6, pH 7.6, GH 125ppm.

5/24/04 - Still floating upside down. Doesn't try to swimwhen I touch him. Isn't eating.

It's afternoon now and my daughter just killed him. He's been in the fridge for an hour when I started the necropsy..
